Every school has a governing
body who, together with the headteacher, manage the school. They monitor
the school curriculum, decide how the budget is spent and have a
responsibility for interviewing and appointing staff. They meet twice each
term as a body, and also in regular committee meetings managing:
Personnel; Finance; Premises and Policy and Curriculum.
The school's latest Ofsted
report can be found an the
Ofsted
website.
The Governing Body was
reconstituted on 1 st
Sept 2004 and has a complement of twelve governors. There are different

Mrs C Keightley is the Clerk to the Governing Body and is responsible for taking
minutes of the full Governing Body meetings and circulating any necessary
paperwork.
The Majority of governors are
lay people with a wide range of experience and expertise. The Governing
Body holds two full meetings a term and works through delegated committees
that meet more regularly.
Southbourne Infant is a happy
and successful school achieving good results and the governors’ role is to
help maintain and improve that high quality of standards and provisions.
The Governing Body is actively
involved in all aspects of the school, overseeing the management which is
primarily delegated to the Headteacher, setting the financial budget,
agreeing targets and implementing the School Improvements Plan. Training
is available through the Local Authority to help governors fulfil their
role in all areas from curriculum matters to building maintenance.
Several of our governors come
in to school to help in the classroom and others attend school workshops
and other functions when work commitments allow.
Being a governor can be hard
work and time consuming but being involved and help to make a difference
can be hugely rewarding. If anyone is interested in becoming a governor or
has any questions regarding governance, the Chair of Governors or
Headteacher will be only too pleased to help and can be contacted through
the school.
